One & Only Moonlight Restricts Public Access, Adds Underground Train for Billionaires
BIG SKY- The One & Only Moonlight Basin resort confirmed plans Thursday to limit gondola access to guests and construct a magnetic levitation train tunnel connecting the Yellowstone Club directly to northside slopes.
The luxury resort, opening November 2025, will begin with “guestfirst scheduling” and a members-only bikini barista espresso cart near Madison Lodge. “We’re creating an elevated mountain experience,” said resort spokesperson Jennifer Kale. “Our guests expect premium amenities.
Locals expressed concern that the move would further limit public access to Moonlight Basin, long considered the last semi-affordable corner of the Big Sky experience.
When asked about continued public access, Kale said slopes would remain open “weather permitting and subject to guest capacity.”
The most significant change involves a planned rail connection allowing Yellowstone Club members to reach Moonlight via underground magnetic train, bypassing public base areas entirely. The tunnel will include an elevator shaft continuing directly to the Lone Peak summit, with warm croissants available throughout the ascent.
Local legend Max Rushmore, known as the mountain’s most accomplished hot-tub poacher, said he’s already planning countermeasures.
“I’ll take a hard right after the north summit snowfield. Wear black, wax your skis, keep your speed up. Been doing this since before they had facial recognition cameras on the lifts.”
The resort declined to comment on rumors of an underwater champagne tram linking to the Yellowstone Club’s private Whole Foods.
